West Pokot Hosts Inaugural Stakeholder Workshop for Chepareria Municipality Development Plan

The County Government of West Pokot Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development held its first stakeholder engagement workshop for the Chepareria Municipality local physical and land use development plan (2024-2034). The workshop was facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at Chepareria and Tukumo centers.

The workshop aimed to gather views and opinions from stakeholders on priorities and existing gaps, including water shortages, waterways, road reserves, electricity, among other issues. These inputs will inform the development of the Chepareria Municipality's local physical and land use development plan (2024-2034), ensuring it reflects community ownership.

Hamilton Bett, the County Principal Physical Planner, guided stakeholders through the guidelines and stages for developing the Chepareria Municipality's local physical and land use plan. He encouraged them to embrace the plan for their socioeconomic benefit.

The meeting was officially opened by the County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Esther Chelimo, along with Chief Officer Mathew Rionokol where they emphasized the plan's importance in preventing future costly mistakes for residents.

Attendees included Chepareria Municipality Manager Silas Plimo, Deputy Manager Dorina Chepkopus, municipality board members, technical officers from the ministry, and other administrative leaders.
