West Pokot County Set to Launch Aramaket Fruit Tree Nursery Project

The County Government of West Pokot, under the leadership of H.E. Simon Kachapin, through the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock Development, and Fisheries, conducted a preparatory assessment visit to the Aramaket Fruit Tree Nursery. The visit, led by CEC Wilfred Longronyang, Chief Officer Naomi Lemreng, and ELRP County Coordinator Thomas Wasike, marked a significant step ahead of the nursery's official launch by Governor Kachapin.

The project, initiated in 2022, houses 150,000 coffee seedlings, 100,000 avocado seedlings, 200,000 mango seedlings, and an acre of land dedicated to cultivating high-quality pyrethrum.

During the visit, CEC Longronyang encouraged farmers to work closely with the department's extension officers stationed at sub-county and ward levels. He also urged farmers to utilize the seedlings provided by the department, emphasizing the potential of cash crops to improve incomes, particularly for youth and women.

"Our pyrethrum boasts high pyrethrin levels, setting us apart," noted CEC Longronyang. He called on schools to revive agricultural and environmental clubs, urging parents to involve their children in farming activities, especially during this rainy season.

The Aramaket Fruit Tree Nursery Project is poised to boost agricultural productivity and economic empowerment across the county, reaffirming the administration's commitment to sustainable development.
