WEST POKOT CELEBRATES JAMHURI DAY WITH A CALL TO EMBRACE UNITY AND PEACE

Governor Simon Kachapin has highlighted the strides made by his administration over the last one year in health, education and agriculture in a move to transform the county.
Speaking during the 60th Jamhuri Day Celebrations at Makutano Stadium, Governor Kachapin said his administration is making deliberate efforts to reduce poverty and illiteracy, emphasising the need for collective action to create better prospects, particularly for the youth.
"We have come a long way as a county, but more needs to be done," Governor Kachapin stated.
He added that his administration is keen on reducing illiteracy rates through diverse programs and financial incentives in education sector, including a substantial allocation of 700 million for bursaries, urging students to apply early for the bursaries to ensure all students receive the necessary financial support.
Healthcare initiatives also took center stage in the governor's address, highlighting deliberate efforts to enhance healthcare access. Notably, eight dispensaries were commissioned in Kasei Ward, highlighting on the impact of devolution.
Governor also reassured the public of the county's commitment to transparency and accountability in executing projects and initiatives, in a bid to strengthen responsible governance.
Deputy Governor Robert Komolle echoed the governor’s sentiments, expressing gratitude for the ongoing initiatives to empower residents of West Pokot.
Addressing security concerns, the deputy governor commended the steps taken to ensure school reopening while emphasizing the critical need for vigilance against incitements that might disrupt the peace and stability achieved.
County Commissioner Apolo Okello, rallied for unity and peace, stressing the necessity of avoiding utterances that could incite unrest. With a focus on addressing security concerns in specific pockets of the county, he said plans were underway to deploy National Police Reservists (NPR) to seven affected schools along the borders. The aim is to secure these areas and ensure the safe reopening of all schools.
