NORTH RIFT LEADERS UNITE FOR INTELLIGENCE-LED DISARMAMENT CAMPAIGN
Three leaders from the North Rift region have
jointly urged the National Government to undertake a comprehensive
intelligence-led disarmament campaign in the area.
The leaders, among them Governors Simon
Kachapin, Benjamin Cheboi (Baringo) and Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo-Marakwet), have
called upon the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination, as well as the
Inspector General of Police, to ensure the apprehension and prosecution of all
criminals responsible for senseless killings and hindrance of development in
the three Counties.
Additionally, the governors reached an agreement
to implement a livestock branding system, assigning specific codes to each of
the three Counties, which will be enforced by Livestock and Veterinary
officers. This measure aims to facilitate the tracing of stolen livestock, with
unbranded animals being ineligible for livestock movement permits and
identified as potential proceeds of cattle rustling.
The exercise will be spearheaded by officers
from the National Government led by County Commissioners and officers from the
Livestock and Veterinary Departments in all the three Counties.
