NOREB Climate Change Scenarios Retreat
Governor Simon Kachapin inaugurated the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) Climate Change Scenarios Retreat at Sarova Woodlands Hotel, Nakuru.
Attended by key figures including county executive committee members, county chief officers and county directors overseeing environment and climate change across the 8 NOREB counties; the retreat aims to evaluate the region's climate risks and ongoing climate action efforts.
Governor Kachapin emphasized the importance of understanding the current climate crisis across the country and highlighted the need for effective action plans to address these challenges.
He further highlighted the importance of building community resilience to withstand the challenges of the changing climate and the counties to ensure climate action is aligned with global goals.
“This forum gives us an opportunity to harmonize climate change policies and develop a regional approach that addresses challenges that no one county can address alone, to enable a joint approach in mobilizing both internal and external resources and most importantly, to avoid a disjointed approach,” said the governor.
Those present include NOREB CEO - Dr. Godfrey Chesang, Kenya Devolution Program/Act! - Paul Annan, FCDO(UKaid)- Dr. Dominic Biwott, Reinvent, Gender Lead - Jacinta Makhoka, Bonita Ayuko- Conflict andPeace Building officer, Olga Mutoro- Regional program officer, CEC William Petot-Water, Environment, Natural Resources & Climate Change, flanked by his Chief Officer Leonard Kamsait, Chief Officer for finance and economic planning Priscilla Chebet and Chief of Staff Tyno Rotino.
