New Community Hall Opened to Address Social Issues in Pokot Central
The Chepkukui Multipurpose Hall in Weiwei Ward, Pokot Central Sub County, was today officially opened by H.E Governor Simon Kachapin. The inauguration marks a significant step towards community's efforts to enhance local infrastructure and address pressing social issues.
During the event, parents and community leaders raised concerns about the high rates of girls dropping out of school due to prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages in the area. They called for the new hall to be equipped and developed into a rescue center to support at-risk girls. Governor Kachapin, emphasizing the importance of protecting and educating young girls, noted that his administration has measures in place to protect girls.
As a result, Governor Kachapin announced that he would cover the school's electricity bill, which has been a significant issue, disrupting the power supply and day-to-day activities. Furthermore, he committed to addressing the long-standing water scarcity problem in the area in due course.
Governor Kachapin reiterated his commitment to equitable development across the county, promising that each ward would receive the attention it deserves. "As promised earlier, I will ensure that development reaches all wards in our county," he stated. "To this end, we have allocated 30 million shillings per year to each ward, led by their respective MCAs, to focus on their specific needs."
