NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat Engages West Pokot County on Strengthening Governance

A delegation from the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat, led by Peter Kimemia, Director of APRM and Governance, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Simon Kachapin in Kapenguria. The team is in West Pokot County to raise awareness among staff about the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and its crucial role in improving governance.

The APRM, a voluntary self-assessment tool adopted by Kenyan counties, facilitates the exchange of experiences, promotes best practices, and helps identify capacity-building needs.

During the meeting, Governor Kachapin emphasized West Pokot County's commitment to the peer review process as a means of strengthening political stability and laying the groundwork for sustainable development.

He also expressed strong support for NEPAD’s approach to governance, noting that it aligns with the county's goals of fostering long-term resilience. The Governor underscored the importance of collaboration between county departments and key stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of these objectives.

The NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat team will partner with local authorities to oversee the execution of AU programs and projects, aimed at enhancing governance practices throughout the county.
