National ELRP Team Evaluates Key Agricultural Projects in West Pokot

West Pokot County recently hosted the National Coordinating Team of the Emergency Locust Response Program (ELRP), led by Eng. Kamwere, an assessment of major agricultural initiatives aimed at enhancing resilience and food security in the region.

The team was received by the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock, and Fisheries, Hon. Wilfred Longronyang, alongside Chief Officer Naomi Lemreng and ELRP County Coordinator Thomas Wasike.

During the visit, the delegation toured several impactful projects jointly funded by the County Government of West Pokot and ELRP, including:

✅ Aramaket Fruit and Cash Crops Tree Nursery (Kapenguria Ward): This initiative produces high-quality seedlings, enabling farmers to diversify their crops, increase resilience to climate challenges, and improve household incomes.
✅ Soibei Irrigation Scheme (Mnagei Ward): A transformative project that enhances year-round water access for farming, boosts food production, and strengthens food security for the local community.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Longronyang emphasized the significance of these projects in empowering farmers and fostering sustainable agricultural practices.

“These projects go beyond addressing immediate challenges. They are paving the way for long-term solutions that enhance livelihoods, promote agricultural resilience, and secure our community’s future,” he said.

Eng. Kamwere commended the county’s effective implementation of ELRP-funded initiatives and reiterated the program’s commitment to supporting impactful projects that benefit local farmers.

Through partnerships like ELRP, West Pokot County continues to transform its agricultural sector, improve food security, and create sustainable economic opportunities for its residents.
