LOMUT WARD FARMERS RECEIVE FRUIT TREES TO BOOST CLIMATE RESILIENCE

In a bid to enhance climate resilience and promote sustainable agriculture, the Department of Water, Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, led by Director Kennedy Pkew and Acting Lomut Ward Administrator Mr. Moses Domongura, has distributed 7,000 apple mangoes and 400 pixie oranges to 1,000 farmers across nine sub-locations within Lomut Ward. This initiative is facilitated by the Financing Locally Led Climate Action Program (FLLoCA).

FLLoCA is a pivotal program designed to combat climate change through community engagement and local leadership. It focuses on addressing structural inequalities and enhancing the resilience of marginalized groups, including women, youth, and indigenous communities.
The fruit tree's initiative highlights the region's proactive measures to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change, coordinated by the county's climate change unit that aligns with Governor Simon Kachapin's manifesto, which emphasizes sustainable development and environmental resilience.
Through the distribution of apple mangoes and pixie oranges, the initiative aims to improve food security, diversify income for local farmers, and promote sustainable agricultural practices essential in the face of changing climatic conditions.
