Kapenguria Municipality Spatial Plan Approved, Paving Way for Sustainable Development

The Cabinet led by Governor Simon Kachapin has on 10th February approved the Kapenguria Municipality Spatial Plan and Kapenguria Municipality Integrated Development Plan, marking a major milestone in the municipality’s spatial planning and sustainable urban development. The plan will now be tabled before the County Assembly for further deliberation and adoption.

The plan covers Siyoi, Kapenguria, and Mnagei, providing a strategic framework for land use, infrastructure development, and environmental management across eight locations. It aims to promote balanced growth, improve livelihoods, and ensure efficient resource allocation for a more resilient future.

With the municipality’s population currently at over 100,000 and projected to reach 145,000 in the next decade, the plan seeks to address key urban challenges such as waste management, water supply, sanitation, and infrastructure development.

“This is a good step for Kapenguria Municipality. A structured spatial plan will guide our development, attract partners and investors, and ensure our resources are well utilized,” said Governor Kachapin.

The plan also emphasizes the creation of conservation areas to promote environmental sustainability and safeguard natural resources.

One of the key aspects of the plan is tackling the water shortage in the municipality. The completion of the Muruny Water Project is expected to significantly improve water supply, addressing a long-standing challenge for residents.

Additionally, the plan recognizes the need for compact and well-organized urban spaces that allow for structured growth, better infrastructure, and improved service delivery.

Once adopted by the County Assembly, the spatial plan will serve as a blueprint for Kapenguria’s sustainable urban expansion and economic growth. The county government is calling on stakeholders, investors, and development partners to support its implementation to ensure that Kapenguria Municipality develops into a well-planned, resilient, and thriving urban center.
