INTERNATIONAL POPULATION DAY COMMEMORATION AT MAKUTANO YOUTH CENTRE

The Department of Health, represented by Consolata Sire, and Deputy County Commissioner Emily Ogola, joined youths from different sub counties at the Youth Centre in Makutano to commemorate International Population Day. This event, held countrywide, provided a platform for youths to discuss pressing challenges, including early pregnancies, family planning methods, and school dropout rates.

Consolata Sire highlighted the critical role of West Pokot leaders in supporting the youth to focus on their studies and avoid distractions that may impact their future. She emphasized the urgent need for intervention as West Pokot ranks second in the country for pregnancy cases. Sire urged parents to educate their children to help them prioritize their future.

Deputy County Commissioner Emily Ogola called on all residents of West Pokot County to report cases of early forced marriages. She assured the youths that any such reports would be acted upon promptly. Ogola's message was clear: the community must work together to protect the youth and ensure their well-being.

During the meeting, youths shared their views and experiences, expressing gratitude to the leaders for addressing their concerns. Consolata Sire also stressed the importance of family planning methods for young mothers, encouraging them to practice spacing their children to better manage their care and resources.
