GROUP OF ORGANIZATIONS BRIEFS THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR ON KEY PROGRAMS RUN IN WEST POKOT COUNTY

Deputy Governor Robert Komolle has been briefed on key programmes being run in West Pokot County by Drought Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods Programme (DRSLP), Emergency Locust Response Project (ELRP), and Village Enterprise organization.

DRSLP aims to support communities to reduce poverty, increase food security and accelerate socioeconomic growth through enhanced rural incomes with a key focus on the management of water and irrigation infrastructures. Similarly, ELRP is working to prevent and respond to threats to livelihoods by responding to emergencies.

With funding from KOICA and support from UN Women and FAO, Village Enterprise is implementing gender-mainstreaming programmes to enhance gender-sensitive adaptive capacity to climate change and strengthen women’s capacity to meaningfully engage in climate-smart agriculture.

H.E. Komolle called on all partners to coordinate with the county to align programmes with the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and other key initiatives to ensure effective implementation and sustainability of projects.

Risper Wanasamba Project Desk Officer, DRSLP pointed out that DRSLP has drilled 15 boreholes, constructed four water pans, two subsurface dams, and Kaminia Irrigation Scheme.

ELRP was represented by its County Coordinator Thomas Wasike while Peter Kodwaran represented Village Enterprise.
