GRAZING PLANS ALIGNED: GIZ AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES FORGE PATH TO SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENT

The Germany Cooperation initiative, "Strengthening Capacity of IGAD towards Drought Resilience in the Horn of Africa (SCIDA III) 2022-2026," executed by GIZ, partnered with the county governments of West Pokot and Turkana to host a crucial meeting at Amakuriat Catholic Church.
The focus was on harmonizing the grazing plans across Pokot North, Loima, and Lokiriama sub-counties' rangeland units.

Over two days, officials from both national and county governments, alongside rangeland committee members, convened to tackle grazing dynamics during dry and wet seasons in crucial rangeland units like Lokitiama Urum, Lobei Lorengkippi, Lokitanyala, Kotaruk Ulukuse, Akoret Tomkwo, Kalapata Soity, and Chemorongit.

The crafted draft grazing plans underwent rigorous processes, including community sensitization and validation, ensuring their resonance and acceptance within the local communities. These plans are set to serve as crucial guides, informing community members about grazing boundaries and practices and by laws, thus fostering sustainable management of rangelands and pasturelands, not only within their territories but also among neighboring communities.

The cooperative efforts between the Germany Cooperation, GIZ, and the county governments signify a monumental stride toward enhancing resilience against drought and advocating for sustainable land management practices, ultimately fostering enduring peace across the regions.
