Governor Leads Groundbreaking Ceremony for Sigor Sub-County Hospital's New Ward Funded by DNDi

Governor Simon Kachapin led a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 32-bed capacity male and female ward at Sigor Sub-County Hospital.
The initiative, fully funded by the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) led by Dr. Louis Pizarro, Executive Director- DNDI marks a pivotal moment in bolstering healthcare services in Central Pokot region.
Governor Kachapin said the new ward will decongest the situation currently at the hospital. He committed to continue collaborating with partners for the benefit of the people of West Pokot.
Since coming into leadership, Governor Kachapin’s administration has constructed a new paediatric ward and a laboratory currently in use at the sub-county hospital.
The forthcoming ward at Sigor Sub-County Hospital is slated to serve as the new Kala azar treatment centre and offer other health services in the hospital. This move with support from DNDi, will further strengthen the region's healthcare infrastructure.
Later on, Governor Kachapin flanked by his deputy Robert Komolle witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the County Government of West Pokot and DNDi.
The MoU signed by Prof. Sam Kariuki, Director of DNDi Eastern Africa, and County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation Claire Parklea, seeks to consolidate endeavours in combating neglected diseases, expedite the development and implementation of novel disease-control methodologies, facilitate the availability of new medications for patients, and fortify regulatory frameworks to ensure timely drug adoption.
Through the collaboration, Sigor Sub-County Hospital will also become the new centre in Central Pokot for treatment of Kalazar patients in Pokot Central. Out of 42 patients in Sigor sub-county, 22 of them are receiving treatment for Kala azar.
The event brought together the County Assembly Health Committee led by Chair Yusuf Longiro, Kasei MCA Francis Loboo, Siyoi MCA Esther Serem, Wilson Chekeruk representing Masol Ward, and nominated MCA Gladys Korii.
