Governor Kachapin Receives Pyrethrum Driers to Boost Farming in West Pokot
Governor Simon Kachapin today received a donation of 16 pyrethrum driers from the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), designed by the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO). The driers will benefit farmers in Lelan, Tapach, and upper Batei, enhancing the county's pyrethrum production.
During the handover, Governor Kachapin highlighted the significance of the driers in revitalizing the pyrethrum sector, which produces some of the highest pyrethrin content in Kenya. He emphasized that the new equipment will reduce post-harvest losses and ensure farmers receive premium payments for their produce.
The governor also shared that the county, in partnership with AFA, is developing market-driven policies and the Draft Pyrethrum Regulations 2024 to provide further support for farmers. He assured farmers that an upcoming MoU with processors will guarantee better returns and minimize losses, encouraging confidence in pyrethrum farming.
