Governor Kachapin Reaches Agreement with Doctors, Averts Strike in West Pokot
H.E. Governor Simon Kachapin successfully averted a looming strike by West Pokot County’s doctors after addressing long-standing grievances during a crucial meeting. The doctors had raised key concerns, including delays in promotions for common cadre doctors, the lack of consultant designations, and the absence of insurance coverage for 29 doctors who were previously covered under NHIF’s comprehensive insurance.
These issues had reportedly affected both the morale of healthcare professionals and the quality of healthcare services provided in the county. Acknowledging the significance of these challenges, Governor Kachapin emphasized the importance of supporting healthcare workers to ensure they remain motivated and focused on delivering high-quality care to the residents of West Pokot.
“We recognize the vital role our doctors play in serving our community, and we understand how these challenges affect not only their morale but also patient outcomes,” Governor Kachapin remarked.
After constructive discussions, both parties reached a mutual agreement, with the Governor committing to address the doctors’ concerns. His administration has pledged to expedite the delayed promotions, implement consultant designations, and restore comprehensive insurance coverage for the affected doctors. “We have put plans in place to address these concerns promptly,” the Governor assured.
Governor Kachapin also expressed his appreciation to the doctors for their continued dedication, reaffirming that healthcare remains a top priority for his administration.
“Their grievances have been heard, and I want to assure them that we are committed to resolving these issues. We will continue to collaborate with the health sector to strengthen our healthcare system for the benefit of all,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Robert Komolle, County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation Paul Woyakapel, and other key county officials.
