Governor Kachapin Hosts KMTC Board of Directors at Kapenguria

His Excellency Governor Simon Kachapin recently hosted the Board of Directors of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) at Kapenguria. The delegation was led by Chairman Joseah Cheruiyot and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kelly Oluoch.

During the visit, the KMTC leaders formally requested permission to use the infrastructure of Aramaket ECDE College to expand the KMTC Kapenguria Campus. The expansion would increase student capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 and allow the institution to offer more courses. Aramaket College, which has been unused for the past seven years, is strategically located near the current KMTC Kapenguria Campus and the Kapenguria County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Governor Kachapin welcomed the proposal, highlighting the significant benefits KMTC has brought to the people of West Pokot. He emphasized that KMTC is one of his flagship projects, enhancing human capital development and opening new opportunities for residents. He noted that the proposed expansion would also help revitalize the Aramaket area.

Governor Kachapin committed to presenting the proposal to the Cabinet and County Assembly for approval. He urged the KMTC team to reserve at least 30% of admission opportunities for local residents and requested that more trainers from the county be employed. Additionally, he asked for the immediate absorption of those on secondment from the County government by KMTC.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Achaule Robert Komolle, County Assembly Leader of Majority Hon. Martin Komongiro, Chairperson of Education and Vocational Training Hon. Esther Serem, County Secretary Jonathan Siwanyang, County Executive Committee Members Joshua Ruto (Finance and Economic Planning), Rebecca Kide (Education and Vocational Training), Paul Woyakapel (Health and Sanitation), County Attorney Robert Katina, as well as other County officials, including MCAs and Chief Officers.
