Governor Kachapin Hosts CIFOR-ICRAF and ITF Delegation to Advance Landscape Restoration Initiatives
H.E. Governor Simon Kachapin welcomed a delegation from the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) and the International Tree Foundation (ITF), led by Shujaa Caroline Menach, HSC, Director of Perur Rays of Hope, to discuss key environmental restoration projects.
The meeting centered on the CIFOR-ICRAF Bezos Quality Tree Seed for Africa project, which aims to improve access to quality seeds and seedlings for landscape restoration in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya, and Rusizi, Rwanda. This initiative addresses critical global challenges, including biodiversity loss, climate change, and food insecurity.
Additionally, the TerraFund project, jointly managed by ITF and Perur Rays of Hope, focuses on forest restoration and supporting local communities in West Pokot. As a leader of the TerraFund for AFR100 in Kenya, ITF is working closely with CIFOR-ICRAF to ensure the effective production of seeds and seedlings for restoration efforts.
The delegation also highlighted an ongoing research survey to collect baseline data critical for the project’s implementation.
Delegation members included Joshua Musau (Technical Consultant, Tree Nurseries - CIFOR-ICRAF), Esther Kamau (Research Assistant, CIFOR-ICRAF), and Joshua Mutambuki (Western Kenya Programmes Officer, ITF).
