DISTRIBUTION OF TREE SEEDLINGS TO PROMOTE GREEN SPACES WITHIN THE COUNTY

Governor Simon Kachapin flanked by the Deputy Governor Robert Komolle led the launch of 122,000 tree seedlings at the Ministry of Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change.

The initiative aims at distribution of 5,000 tree seedlings to each department, promoting green spaces within county departments and public lands. This endeavor aligns with President William Ruto’s directive to plant 15 billion trees within a decade.

Accompanied by CECMs and Chief Officers, Governor Kachapin noted that the long rains season provides an opportunity to plant trees and establish tree nurseries.

The County Government of West Pokot hosts various types of tree nurseries, including 51,000 exotic, 1,000 indigenous, and 500 ceremonial tree seedlings.

Notably, the support for tree planting extends beyond governmental efforts, with contributions from NGOs and parastatals such as NEMA, NSSF, Equity Bank, and KVDA. In total, there are 123,500 seedlings for planting, reflecting a comprehensive approach to environmental sustainability.
