County Government of West Pokot and KMTC Sign MOU to Expand Medical Training Opportunities

The County Government of West Pokot and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation and expand medical training in the county. Under this agreement, the County Government has allocated the former Aramaket ECDE college to KMTC, providing a new facility for the institution’s expansion.
The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Governor Simon Kachapin accompanied by Mr. Jonathan Siwanyang, County Secretary; Mrs. Rebecca Kide, CEC for Education and Vocational Training; and Mr. Julius Lokituman, Chief Officer for Vocational Training, among other officials. KMTC was represented by Board Chair Hon. Joseah Cheruiyot and CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch.
KMTC Kapenguria Campus has experienced remarkable growth. This year, with the additional facilities, the campus was able to admit 400 new students, bringing its total enrollment to 1,600. The campus has also expanded its course offerings to include new programs such as a Certificate in Orthopaedic Trauma and Medicine, Emergency Medical Technician Certification, and a Diploma in Community Health.
Governor Kachapin praised KMTC’s role in increasing training opportunities for county residents, which has allowed the county to build a skilled healthcare workforce. He encouraged residents to fully leverage these educational resources to improve their career prospects in the health sector.
Dr. Oluoch expressed gratitude for the County’s support and announced KMTC’s plans to expand further. With the new facility, KMTC aims to increase enrollment to 2,500 students next academic year and introduce additional courses to meet the growing demand for trained health professionals in the region.
The partnership reflects the County Government of West Pokot’s commitment to improving local healthcare services and creating more educational and professional opportunities for its residents.
