County Agricultural Subsidies Launched
H.E Governor Simon Kachapin today launched the County funded Agricultural Subsidies for financial year 2022/2023 at Kilimo House.
With overall objectives of enhancing equitable growth at the ward level, household incomes, improving food and nutrition security and disease-free zone, the commissioning of the agricultural subsidies highlights Governor Kachapin’s commitment to support the farming community in the county to produce adequate food for households and the market.
The consignment of the agricultural subsidies includes Knapsack spray pumps, water pumps, dewormers, antibiotics, acaricides, chain links, PVC water pipes, Vaccine (contagious, bovine pleuropneumonia-CBPP, contagious caprine pleuropneumonia-CCPP), foot and mouth- FMD, lumpy skin disease-LSD, peste de petis ruminants-PPR, sheep and goat pox-S&G, blackquarter/ anthrax-BQ).
Together with the county partners Farmer Cooperative Societies involved in value chain addition and marketing of agriculture produce were supported with machines and equipment where Arakuko Poultry Farmers Cooperative Society will be supported to do hatchery construction, installation of 5KW solar system, acquisition of incubators, chicken slauther line equaipment, cold storage among other items.
“farmers in the county must be in the forefront and work smart to be self sufficient in food production and improve their socio-economic status,” said the governor.
The governor clearly stated that through the County Department of Agriculture, Livestock and fisheries and other partners farmers will be supported to embrace technology. Consequently, the County Government of West Pokot will keenly identify, capacity build and follow up on all farmer beneficiaries on all the investments to ensure that there is ownership and value for money by farmers and other beneficilaries.
The governor was accompanied by the deputy governor Hon. Robert Komolle, County Executive Members Wilson Long’ronyang (agriculture and livestock), Rebecca Kide (education), Joshua Siwanyang (tourism, sports and culture), Joshua Ruto (roads and public works), MCAs Emmanuel Akasile (Suam ward and chair agriculture committee), Richard Todosia (Mnagei) and Richard Mastaluk (Kapenguria), Chief Officers Naomi Lemreng (agriculture and livestock), Daniel Lopale (PSM&ICT), Musa Losiangole, Tyno Rotino(chief of staff) among other county officials and residents from across the county.
