KAPENGURIA COUNTY REFERRAL HOSPITAL PARTNERS WITH FISTULA FOUNDATION TO RESTORE DIGNITY TO WOMEN

H.E The Governor, Prof John Lonyangapuo launched free Fistula Repair Surgery at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital conducted by the County Government of West Pokot in partnership with Fistula Foundation. This programme will help Fistula patients through life changing surgeries.

Fistula is a condition that usually occurs due to child birth complications but is exacerbated by the retrogressive culture of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). West Pokot county is among the top most affected region by the condition that robs our mothers and girls their dignity.

 

During the launch, Ms Flora Chepoghisio, a Fistula survivor, who was successful operated on at our referral hospital by Dr Anthony Wanjala, gave a moving narration on how the condition brought untold suffering and darkness into her life. She could not hide her joy adding that she can now interact with people without being stigmatised as was the case before. "I urge my people to shun FGM and call upon any Fistula patient out there to come to KCRH for treatment, free of charge" she said.

H.E The Governor expressed sincere appreciation to Fistula Foundation and their partners; Healthright and Pendo Africa, for their immense support to this great county. He pledged an assurance that he will relentlessly surport the effort to wadge out the manace by donating a vehicle to the programme among other helpfull resources in a bid to achieve a Fistula free community.
