Maendeleo ya wanawake members from the national level to the grassroots have assured The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta to count on their votes ahead of the Oct 17th repeat elections.
In a meeting at the Kishaunet ASK showground, the women from all the North Rift counties stated that they are solidly behind The First Lady who has played a major role in their lives as women, and as such, they would vote for President Kenyatta for a second term to enable The First Lady continue with her initiatives.

Speaking at the showground to hundreds of women who had gathered from various counties, The First Lady appealed to the women to turn out in large numbers for the repeat polls, saying that more work needs to be done to improve the lives of women and children.
She sought to reassure the women that she remains committed and will work tirelessly to ensure the vulnerable in the society are protected.
“All your concerns are mine and yours. I plead with you to come out strongly to reaffirm our choice of Uhuru Kenyatta as president. Let us consolidate all the votes and cast no doubt that Uhuru is president,” said The First Lady.

The office of The First Lady launched ‘Beyond zero’ campaign in all counties with an aim of improving maternal and child health, giving out mobile clinics to aid access to health services. The office also began Linda Mama, Boresha Mama programme in various counties, West Pokot among them.

The area governor Prof John Lonyangapuo who had earlier on received The First Lady and her daughter Ngina Kenyatta at the county offices, hailed The First Lady saying that her initiatives have saved lives in many counties around the nation.
He gave his word to The First Lady that the people of this county would vote for Uhuru for a second term, saying he will lead the campaigns personally.
“I have witnessed what Beyod Zero has done to our people, especially in Sigor where there is only a single hospital. It has been of great impact to our people there, and that is why we will stand with President Kenyatta in next months’ election.”

He however asked The First Lady to avail another Beyond Zero mobile clinic to North pokot, which is the largest sub-county in West Pokot, to aid in reducing mortality rates in the area.
The Maendeleo ya Wanawake leaders from Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans-Nzoia, Baringo, Turkana and West Pokot maintained that they would turn out in large numbers in next months’ polls.
The chairperson Rahab Mwikali said that theirs is a strong movement that would make a statement on Oct 17th,” We are working with women from the grassroot level to ensure that we put an end to this circus. We cannot paralyze our country. We need to move ahead.”
Present were PS Khadija Kasachoon-Min of Labor and East Africa affairs, West Pokot women representative Lilian Tomitom, county commissioner Apollo Okello and Ahadi Trust Kenya.
Later on, The First Lady presented mosquito nets to expectant women and children.
