The Chairperson of the Ushanga Kenya Initiative Mrs. Hellen Nkaiseri visited the county to introduce bead work business model which is has been a hobby and among women in pastoral Communities. She was received by the CEC for Department of Tourism, Culture, Youth, Sports, Gender & Social Services Ms. Emily Chepoghisyo and Chief Officers from the department.
Initiative Kenya is a multi-sectoral initiative that was actualized by the Office of The Deputy President whose function is to create jobs and transform lives of women from pastoralist communities through commercialization of beadwork.
Mrs. Nkaiseri was stunned by the beauty her eyes met while in the county pointing out that such beauty needs to be transformed into income through tourism activities and beadwork.
She asked the women in the county to change their artwork from artefacts into products that can be sold in the current market.
“We can also use this product as a tool for peace, pastoral communities can come together and share their cultural experiences in a bid to raise their living standards instead of fighting for cattle”, she said.
The initiative will see women in the county develop cooperatives which will make marketing and funding easier.
Mrs. Nkaiseri said that the government and its partners will ensure that women get relevant skills and funding to make the programme successful.
