The County Government has embarked on its second phase of bursary disbursement which focuses on University students from West Pokot County who are studying in all the universities in Kenya.
Speaking during the launching ceremony held at Kapenguria, The Governor Prof. John Lonyang’apuo lauded the great work done by the bursary committee in ensuring that the process was transparent and fair, which saw every student receive a fair share of the bursary.

“We have ensured that every University student gets a flat rate of Ksh.10, 000 and commit more allocations to students from humble backgrounds. Some will get 15,000 while others will get even up to 60,000.” He said.

The County Assembly Speaker Catherine Mukenyang commended Prof Lonyangapuo’s administration for the noble idea of ensuring that every student gets a slice of the bursary. “The Governor has played his role and it’s now up to you to show appreciation by working hard and excelling in your various fields of study. Go and make our county proud.’ She said.
The bursary was distributed among 12 universities across the country. The University of Eldoret has the highest number of students from West Pokot County, with 252 students. They got the lion’s share of the Bursary of Ksh.2, 655,000 while the University with the lowest number of students is Embu University with 34 students. They got Ksh.370, 000 from the Bursary kitty.
