Education and peace are concurrent functions for both national and county shared at both levels. Education gives knowledge of the world around and enables the one to bring and implement changes like peace to the society and a better perspective of looking at life is developed.
On Thursday 13th September, 2018, governors of member counties of Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) and other national officials laid a foundation stone for The Kanyerus Peace Border School at Kanyerus, Suam Ward.
The school will benefit children from Kenya and Uganda. The school will nurture peaceful coexistence among pupils, neighbouring communities and boost cross-border relation, encourage more pupil’s enrolment and boost literacy level of the county. This move brings communities together to share a common ground of promoting oneness, unity, peace, social and economic establishment of each and every community.
This is the second peace school after Katikomor whose construction is ongoing. The county government of West Pokot is tackling insecurity head on and by all means to ensure the county and her neighbours are secure. Such means include more peace schools as peace and charity is believed to start at home. Consequently, plans are underway to build more peace schools at Apuke, Akulo, Nauyopong and Sabulmoi.
The event was graced by ASAL and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who commended the efforts done by County Government of West Pokot and FCDC in promoting, coordinating and facilitating the active and extensive participation of all sectors to effect the socio-economic development.
