Despite the hot weather condition experienced in Ortum-Central Pokot, nothing could stop the excitement of teachers, parents, guests and students of Ortum Boys from celebrating their good performance in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary examination (KCSE).
March 5th 2017 was set aside for the annual general meeting of Ortum Boys Secondary School with the main agenda of celebrating the good results achieved by the 253 candidates that sat for the 2016 KCSE. The school emerged top in West Pokot County with a mean score of 8.9 and this propagated the performance of the whole county to a better height clinching position one in the entire country.
The occasion was graced by H.E Governor Simon Kachapin, Kipkomo Sub-County Director of Education Mr. Julius Ngoleshi, the school’s sponsor; the Catholic Church, Kenya Secondary School Heads Association(KSSHA) and Kenya Primary School Heads Association(KPSHA) representatives, Knut and KUPPET representatives and other county officials.
The governor appreciated the good foundation that the teachers and the parents had built for the boys. He also acknowledged and appreciated the support the Catholic Church has given to the school and the development of education in the county. Further, he challenged the current form fours, the other classes and the other schools in the county to work hard for the betterment of the county as Knowledge is power, information is liberating, education is the foundation of progress in every society and family.
The County Government together with the National government through the Ministry of Education has pledged to give KSH 4million to build and complete the computer laboratory which should be in use by next year. The governor also promised to complete the social hall of the school of which will be the biggest in the whole county. “My government has really valued the education sector by building approximately seven new secondary schools in the county” he said.
“WE NURTURE TO SERVE” this alone as the school motto encourages and upholds the teachers, parents and students spirit towards achieving the greater heights of education.
