West Pokot Members of County Assembly have been sworn in, a move that ushers in a fresh breath of leadership after the Aug election polls that saw 17 MCAs from the last house being sent home.

The sworn MCAs who vowed to work for the electorate and uphold the constitution, later on voted for the speaker of the county assembly where Catherine Mukenyang- former CEC in the Ministry of Health clinched the seat after winning in the first round of voting where she got 29 votes out of a possible 33.

She then took the oath of office, signed a certificate and assumed her role as the first woman speaker of county and vowed to serve both the majority and minority members and uphold the constitution. Mukenyang takes over from the former speaker, Robert Katina.

Kasei ward MCA Francis Krop Losia was elected as the deputy county assembly speaker.
Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo, senator Samwel Poghisio, MPs David Pkosing and Peter Lochakapong, women representative Lilian Tomtom were among leaders present to witness the swearing in ceremony of the MCAs.
