The county government of West Pokot aims to enhance food security of the county. Food security is when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to enough, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs for an active and healthy life; this should apply to the family level, with individuals and within households.
The Governor Prof. Lonyangapuo together with the CEC Member for Pastoral Economy, Agriculture and Irrigation, Mr. Geoffrey Lipale and his team distributed maize seeds in Kapenguria to people living with disabilities in the county. The group was given 6kg of maize seeds each that will approximately cover ¾ of an acre.

The County Government purposes to prioritize the needs of all the people in the county. Such group as people living with disabilities need to be empowered through all means to uplift their socio-economic standard to narrow the poverty gap.
“I urge the people responsible to collect data on how many people in our county are living with disabilities. This will help us know and understand our people and be able to assist them. I have already signed a Community Development Bill that will see more people employed in the county. I desire to have people living with disabilities involved in the community development projects to earn their living.” Said the Governor.

Dorcas Ngimor-Director, Gender, Women Affairs and People Living with Disabilities advised the PLWDs to engage more with the county government. “You all need to be aggressive and come up with projects that will sustain you. This will motivate the County Government to support you throughout your projects.”
She further insisted on the County Government, NGOs, CBOs and other national institutions to be compliant with needs of PLWDs .
