Kapenguria Heroes, the Rift Valley Region champions proved their name right as they clinched the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Football Tournament.
Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Football Tournament purposes to recruit young talents aged between 16 and 20 years old to play in the national tournament, showcase their talent and stand a chance to win Ksh. 1million for the winning team and an opportunity to train in an international training camp in London.

Kapenguria Heroes and Tartar Girls’ were the Rift Valley representative in the tournament.
Tartar Girls passed through the quarter finals by beating Waa Girls of Coast. They then eliminated Arch Bishop Njenga Girls (Western) in the semi-finals by 2 goals to nil. The girls were held to a draw with Plateau Queens (Nyanza). The moved to penalties to determine the winner saw Plateau Queens edge out Tartar Girls by 4 goals to 3.
Kapenguria Heroes showed their talent in tournament the first day it started. They humbled Mwingi Junior Stars(Eastern) 4-1 propelling them to the semi finals to face Ombek Red Devils of Nyanza. Backed by their homegrown supporters, Kapenguria Heroes secured a place in the finals after they knocked out Ombek Red Devils in the post-match penalties.
The boys’ team displayed an impressive game against Gor Mahia Youth of Nairobi to lift the Boys’ Title. The teams drew 0-0 the whole full time. The Rift Valley representative clinched the title after scoring all their first three post-match penalties. Ombek Red Devils lost all their 3 penalties.

Tartar Girls received an award for being the Runners-up and the Most Disciplined Team.
Kapenguria Heroes sealed their fate of being the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom 2017/2018 Champions. Also, some team members were awarded; Brian Lumumba- Golden Glove Award and David Majak as the Most Valuable Player. Majak is currently signed by Kakamega Home Boyz FC.
All these wins saw a mega celebration organised by the county government. They teams were first receive at Murkwijit by CEC Member of Youth, Sports, Tourism, Gender and Social Services, other members of the administration and their local loyal fans. The motorcade proceeded to the Governor’s Office through Makutano town in style; escorted by Safaricom to announce the entrance of the champions.

They were received by the Governor prof. Lonyangapuo who applauded them for showing their talent and restoring the name of West Pokot county. “They said so many things about us but the whole nation didn’t know what we are capable of. They came and saw on their own that we are the champions. Let’s strategize on how our talents will be utilised well to our advantage” said the Governor.
