Under the county government’s economic empowerment program dubbed ONIONS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH AND WEALTH CREATION that was launched last year, Batei Ward has richly endowed itself with the venture.
Famously known for producing high quality onions and now having the support of the county government, wards like Batei, Chepareria, Tapach, Weiwei and Lomut have greatly embarked on commercializing onion farming on a progressive largescale level.
Economy being one of the key pillars of Prof. Lonyangapuo administration, he has worked resolutely in support of the county’s economy through the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Pastoral Economy to empower and support agri-business across the county.
Recently Jonathan Karita (CO-Agriculture and Irrigation) accompanied by Joseph Khaemba (Deputy County Director of Agriculture in charge of agribusiness and marketing) visited the onion growing areas and witnessed the successful and vast onion lands the farmers have put under onions. Many of the farmers that were given the 250gms tin of certified onion seeds planted and are looking forward for a plentiful harvest starting this month.
Governor Prof. Lonyangapuo has always emphasized that his administration has resolve to roll out grassroots initiatives that directly empower the people.
