Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) are key drivers in the self-employment sector. My administration is cognizant of this and has an active programme which entails revamping of VTCs through massive infrastructure development, purchase of training equipment, recruitment of instructors and a Bursary scheme for all the trainees from West Pokot.
During a graduation ceremony at Chepareria Vocational Training Centre, Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo applauded the 44 graduands and said that the county through Vocational training department, will continue to empower all the centers across the county to ensure that every student has an equal an opportunity towards a prosperous future.
The governor also led the commissioning of a twin workshop, two hostels and building technology centre which are part of the county's initiative to improve infrastructure. The county government has also purchased a multi-purpose machine for woodwork and will be used in the production of modern beehives. Lonyangapuo said that the move for the right trajectory in creating job opportunities and generating income as it will tap into the opportunities in the bee keeping industry.
West Pokot is one of the honey-producing counties and Chepareria VTC is set to be the destination choice for the purchase of modern beehives and other equipment for bee keeping.
Since the radical changes made by the county to transform VCT centers, the institutions have recorded a sharp increase in enrollment rates.
