Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo led West Pokot residents in celebrating the first joint graduation at Kapenguria VTC. The Governor said that the vocational training center has been left out for a long time and his government is mandated to ensure that all vocational centers that ceased to be active in the county are going to be rehabilitated and equipped with the new and appropriate equipment.
As a way of motivating VTCs, the Governor gave out a number of machines/equipment such as sewing machines to Fashion and Design Department, Plumbing tools and equipment to Plumbing Technology Deparment and Hair dressing and beauty therapy as well.
During the ceremony, Governor Prof. Lonyangapuo conferred all 143 graduates with certificates in their various courses. Five students attained distinction and the rest scored credit and pass.
The Governor awarded he best performers their with business startup kits such as sewing machines, masonry tools, plumbing tools, motor vehicle mechanic toolboxes, desktop and a blender. He encouraged the graduates to form cooperatives and be creative on how to generate income.
He also reiterated that his government is ready to award tenders and contracts to qualified graduates from vocational training centers.
CEC Christine Apakoreng in charge of Education and Technical Training called upon residents to engage in vocational training while reiterating that graduates should form groups and apply for tenders from schools. She promised that county government will employ 28 instructors by September for the purpose of quality and competitive products.
Chief Officer Musa Anupa- Technical training while recognizing the magnitude of the event, called upon residents to enroll more students in technical trainings so as to acquire new skills that will be beneficial to them once they clear their trainings.
Also present during the convocation were CECs Geoffrey Lipale- Agriculture, Jackson Yaralima- Water, MPs and a number of MCAs.
