The First Lady Dr. Mary Lonyang’apuo has unveiled a mentorship program, an initiative of the first lady’s office, aimed at empowering the youth so as to reach their full potential. The event was held at St. Elizas Girls, Kabichbich.
The initiative which brought together youths from the large Lelan Ward provided them with an opportunity to receive mentorship from the First Lady among other mentors.
First Lady Dr. Lonyangapuo said that there is need for the youths to receive guidance and a sense of direction from the elders in the society.
“Many of our youths are getting lost in drug abuse other behaviors that prevent them from being responsible members of the society. That has to stop,” said the first lady.
She moreover stressed on the need to have educated members of the society in order to progress it.
The First Lady was flanked by the Ward First Lady Mrs. Mary Lokato – wife to the area MCA Hon. Johnstone Lokato. Mrs. Lokato noted that the mentorship program is a historic one because it has never been done in the county.
Among those present at the event were, Hon. Elijah Kasheusheu – Nominated MCA, St. Elizas’ Principal Mrs. Nancy Chemnjor, Education stakeholders and religious leaders.
The Youth Mentorship program was carried out across all the 20 wards in the county with several role models tasked to speak to the youth.
