The First Lady Dr. Mary Lonyang’apuo on Wednesday joined hundreds of influential women across the country in marking The International Women’s Day. The Conference held at Laico Regency, themed ‘TIME IS NOW’ was hosted by Women In Business. It was attended by senior government officials among them Hon. Eugene Wamalwa-Cabinet Secretaty Devolution, Hon. Rachel Shebesh – Chief Administrative Secretary-Ministry of Public Service, youth and Gender affairs, H.E Anne Waiguru-Governor Kirinyaga County and Vice Chair Council of Governors, Hon. Esther Passaris - Women Rep Nairobi County, Karin Fueg – Country Deputy Director UN Women Kenya, Dr. Nancy Barasa – Former Deputy Chief Justice, renown media personalities and business ladies.

The women deliberated on the progress made by various stakeholders towards empowering women, with emphasis on the need to implement the two third gender rule.
The chief Guest H.E Anne Waiguru said the struggle towards women empowerment has been long overdue and time is up on waiting. She however said that despite the stereotypes surrounding women and leadership, they have achieved considerable progress.

“I am very excited to see that Kenyans have realized that women can also be great leaders. We now wish to see more than ten elected women Governors in the next election.” She said

The First Lady later on Thursday, joined thousands of women at Statehouse Nairobi in marking The International Women’s Day. The event was hosted by Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta and The First Lady Hon. Margaret Kenyatta.
