Emergencies and disasters have for some time hit the county. Insecurity issues; cattle rustling and cases of fire are some of the issues that the County Disaster Management and Response team confront as a department.
Led by a Turkish company senior trainer Eng. Buhadir Bulbul in collaboration with Itete Trading Company, the County Disaster and Response team were trained on how the West Pokot County Fire Brigade engine works. Later the fire pump, the hydraulic system and the pneumatic lighting mast was tested at Makutano stadium.
All the training and testing was in the aim of establishing the number of personnel that will operate the engine, the number of firemen which is 4 that will be attached to the fire brigade section.
Assistant Director Disaster Management and Response, Mr. Sikamoi requested the governor through CEC PSM, ICT and Devolved Unit Mrs. Kisabit to acquire radio emergency equipment for emergencies and disaster call to be received and dispatched accordingly and be connected by 999, Red Cross and EMS.
“A central and easily accessible place where the fire brigade will be station is the key issue in order to deliver these services to the people of our county. This will justify the mandate the disaster management and response section of the county.” He said.

Also present during the training was CEC PSM, ICT and Devolved Units, Mrs. Kisabit, CO- Administration and Devolved Units and other officers from the department.
