Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo has directed the Department of Water to implement measures to avert looming crisis due to water shortages in some parts of the county.
The Department of Water has established more than 15 water trucking centres in Masol ward in a move aimed at mitigating effects of the prolonged drought.
Arid parts of West Pokot County are facing acute water shortages as drought continues ravaging livelihoods.
Chief Officer Milka Psiwa- Water said the centres are vital government institutions such as dispensaries, schools and settlements areas, adding that the county has two water boozers to aid in water trucking. So far, water has been supplied in Kokwochi and Surumpen primary schools in Masol.
She said the county government is working on other long term measures in line with improving the situation of the biting drought.
