West Pokot County Government has launched a Sacco that will bring together residents across the county.


Speaking during the launch of West Pokot County Economic SACCO (WEPESA), Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo said his administration has already set aside Kshs. 60 million to get the Sacco on its feet.
Prof. Lonyangapuo said that the launch of the sacco seeks to uplift the livelihoods of residents by ensuring that they get access to credit facilities without collateral as demanded by most financial institutions.
“Equity and economy are the cornerstones of our manifesto. As a government, we’re committed to see that we actualize our manifesto. This is one of the many steps we’ve made towards fulfilling it.” Said the Governor.
The deputy governor Dr. Nicholas Atudonyang who also graced the event, urged residents to embrace the sacco for collective future prosperity of the county.
He however cautioned the sacco board members against mismanagement of members contributions.

“Integrity and accountability are the cornerstones upon which the society is founded. Let us remember that as we begin this new chapter,” said Dr. Atudonyang.
He said that the county government is determined to enhance wealth creation and deepen financial inclusion in the region by mobilising savings and offer affordable credit facilities.
CECM Joel Arumonyang- Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, while applauding the county administration’s support towards the establishment of the sacco, maintained that his department will ensure fulfils its agenda; provide affordable financial solutions to residents.
The governor was flanked by Mps Mark Lomunokol- Kacheliba, Peter Lochakapong- Central Pokot, CECs, chief officers among other county officials.
Upon completion of six months, members will be eligible to apply for loans three times their savings.
