The County Government of West Pokot has endeavoured to prioritize early childhood care and education for learning and development in the county. Early Childhood Development is a vital entry point for other greater development programs.
With the prioritization of ECDE in mind, governor Prof. Lonyangapuo opened 6 ECDE Centres in Roponywo, Koitumo, Alimaris and Karas Primary Schools in Kapenguria Ward and Mohamed Galib and Kitalaposho Primary Schools in Mnagei Ward. These centres will cater for the huge number of children in the two wards. Approximately 240 ECDE centres that the governor launched in April this year are complete and ready for use. These are some of the developments the county government is doing to increase the school enrolment and retainment rate in the county.
“I wish to laud school committees in all the schools for prudent use of public funds entrusted to them. My government will now embark on furnishing the completed centres this financial year with good quality desks. In addition, 300 ECDE teachers will be posted to ECDE centres across the county.” Said the governor.
The governor was accompanied with Mrs. Christine Apakoreng- CEC Member for Education and Technical Training and other county education officers.
