Following the commitment made by the county government in strengthening the economy, CEC Augustine Monges led a meeting held at Kalya hotel that brought together business men and women from across the county.
The meeting which was organized by the Kenya Chambers of Commerce-West Pokot County Chapter aims at facilitating and promoting a sustainable business environment for economic growth and prosperity of the county.
In the meeting which saw the governor being endorsed as the chamber’s patron and Mr. Monges as the deputy, the business men and women asked the county government to provide them with better business environment.

Their chairman Rev. Mark Akange Lotee pointed out the need for better working environments for the business people.
“Poor drainage and sewerage system is still a huge challenge especially in Makutano town. This is just one of the many challenges we are still being faced with. The business community also needs financial support,” said Akange.
The chairman however appreciated the county government for recognizing and supporting the business community.
In response, CEC Monges encouraged the business community to build warehouses in West Pokot to sell products on wholesale to smaller businesses. He added that his ministry has prioritized street lighting to ensure 24 hr economies.

He also said he will work with the department of planning to ensure that all the issues raised regarding the state of Makutano town are handled.
"As your CEC, I am your defender. Inform me of any issues affecting you as business community. We are working towards establishing a business mall that can house many businesses under one roof,” said Mr. Monges.
