West Pokot County represented by the County Secretary Dr. Michael Parklea on behalf of the Governor Prof. John Lonyang’apuo led presentations at a Research Congress held in Kisumu. The Congress themed 'Harnessing Research Output for Sustainable Development' which was a first of its kind, was attended by lead researchers from all over the world.

The County Secretary was tasked to present on The Missing Link in Research in Africa. The topic sought to find out why African researchers are well trained and excel in their work in Western Countries but not within Africa. The CS stated the following as the reasons;
Challenges in research brought out issues such as low funding from decision makers, poorly equipped laboratories and the role of researchers not getting enough recognition.
The congress was hosted by Masinde Muliro University School of Science and Technology at The Grand Royal Swiss Hotel in Kisumu. The Congress brought together several partners including The University of Venda and Walter Sigulu University from South Africa and University of Ibadan from Nigeria.
